Chemelil Sugar Company has finally installed a Sh. 100 million Turbine Alternator to produce power for the running of the factory.
The company managing director Charles Owele says with the installation of the alternator, the company will be saving Sh. 12 million in monthly power bills.
Owele said that the installation of the cost saving 100M power turbine is aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of the miller in the regional market.
He added the turbine was procured from India and announced that engineers from India will be flying into the country to embark on the turbine commissioning exercise.
Owele said the commissioning of the turbine will avail three megawatts of electricity to the factory and enable the company to save million of shillings in power bills currently incurred from Kenya Power.
He said the monthly power bill saving will enable the company to reinvest the funds into other factory maintenance and operational areas and greatly enhance its competitiveness ahead of the expiry of COMESA safe guard.
