Police in Kisumu have launched a massive man hunt, after 13 prisoners escape Ahero Police Station cell. Kisumu County Police Commander Nelson Njiri confirmed the escape, which occurred after 13 prisoners overpowered two officers manning the station desk.
Njiri said, among the escapees, were 3 hardcore criminals facing murder and robbery charges adding that the 6AM escape plan may have been hatched and perpetuated by these three criminals.
He said the 13 prisoners caused commotion in the cell after one of them threw an object at the officers taking advantage of the female prisoners doing the housekeeping.
Njiri dismissed reports that the escapees had splashed feaces at the officers before escaping. The Police Boss says two of the suspects were arrested in connection to the shooting of Ahero Ward Representative Maurice Aloo.
According to Njiri, police later arrested one of the escapees through the support of the community. Njiri appealed to the public to help them arrest the suspects since most of them are well known.
