The World Reader Organization has donated 50 e-book readers worth 1 million to the Usonga Community library located in Alego Usonga constituency Siaya County.
According to the Assistant Manager of the World Reader Organization in Kenya Mr. Martine Omondi, each e-book reader contained 100 different books making the total number of books donated to the library to be 5000.
He revealed that the books contain the Kenyan Primary and Secondary Schools syllabus adding that they intend to reach students in the community by ensuring that the books boost their academic performance and improve education standards in the area.
Speaking in Lunyu village during the official donation Mr. Omondi added that the organization is also sponsoring 50 similar projects in various academic institutions in Kenya.
He added that the western region is one of the key beneficiaries, stating that 8 libraries have benefited from 200 e-book readers each containing 220 book with some of the beneficiary counties including Kakamega, Kisumu, Vihiga, Siaya and Busia Counties.
He added that the organization is in the process of donating 50 e-book readers in Kitale community library within Uasin Gishu County before the end of this month.
Mr. Omondi challenged the politicians and other well-wishers to sponsor their initiative of donating free e-book readers to the schools to replace the worn out books.
