300M for Maseno University Facelift

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Education, Research and Technology is proposing that funds to the tune of KES. 300M for Maseno University Facelift.

A delegation of the committee members who visited the institution says the condition of Maseno University is deplorable, the leader of the delegation Wilbur Ottichilo, MP for Emuhaya says the development of the university is outdated and needs to be upgraded with the new technologies .

Otichillo said the institution lacks a modern library to enable students to carry out their research work efficiently, He says that the construction of the library stalled way back and there is need to speedily complete the facility.

we need to have a modern library  in the institution to help the student carry their researcher effectively without going out to do their work in places which are not adequate to their work,  said Otichillo.

The MP said the committee will recommend for the release of funds for the completion of the library’ . He further noted that the institution has a very serious shortage of accommodation facilities for its students.

Ottichilo said the university started to construct hostels for female students but that also stalled and is grappling with accommodation issues.

The committee members promised to ensure funds to the university are adequate to enable them carry out some of their program. However, the committee challenged the university to explore public private partnership to spur the growth of the university in all spheres.
