Migori County Assembly approved a supplementary budget of Ksh. 5.8 Billion for the 2014/2015 financial year in a special seating.
The budget which was approved after a heated debate in the assembly floor where some of the members were against it, but in turn of events the increased budget from the previous Ksh.5.3 billion to 5.8 billion was supported by three-quarter of the assembly members though with some amendments recommended.
The budget that was presented by Budget and Appropriation Committee Chairman Hon. Abedi Maroa was finally endorsed by majority of the members and was pronounced approved by speaker of the Migori county assembly Hon. Gordon Ogolla.
The supplementary budget that was approved was to allocate funds to some salient dockets that have never been considered in the previous budget allocation for the ministries and other dockets.
Among the important docket that was included in the supplementary budget is Ksh, 100 Million allocation for sponsorship of less fortune and orphanage secondary student who score 350 marks and above which an ongoing county program.
Ksh.50 Million and Ksh.22 million respectively was also allocated for decongestion of Migori town and disaster emergency response among other.
Ward representative for Sakwa West, Mr. Philip Ouma said that their activities at the ward level have been halted by this supplementary budget and therefore the approval of the budget will be a relief to them so that they can embark on development at their ward.
