An accident occurred along the Kisumu-Nairobi highway on a backdrop of stringent rules provided by the transport Minister Engineer Michael Kamau. The accident occurred between a lorry and a Tuk tuk plying the route along Nyalenda Estate and the Kisumu town.
According to a witness first on the scene of the accident the lorry lost control being unable to considerably brake to avoid a head on collision, having moved away from its lane and surprisingly hitting the Tuk tuk head on, pushing it at least 5 yards from the point of impact.
The driver interviewed said that he lost control when the brakes failed and swerved hence having no choice but to unfortunately ram into the oncoming Tuk tuk which was positioned directly ahead of it.
Luckily all passengers including both drivers on both vehicles were not seriously injured, walking away with minor cuts and bruises though shocked that they had just stared
The police were yet to arrive on scene to record the events of the day and will be at pains to stop such accidents given the disorganized manner in which selfish motorist use the highway using either lanes at will without thought of the traffic rules.
The unfinished busy Nairobi-Kisumu highway has a history for accidents and the county government should push the Chinese contractors to complete the project to allow for an organized driving experience given the major traffic it accumulates during peak and off-peak hours.
Another day in Kisumu that requires Jo-Kisumu to drive safe and be aware of the shortfall of the Kisumu-Nairobi Highway that is incomplete.
