A new political party has been registered in Nyanza region. CCP is set to change the wave of Nyanza politics by championing democracy and development in Nyanza through their meetings.
Citizens Convention Party (CCP) has now been awarded a certificate by the Registrar of Political Parties Lucy Ndun’gu after a wait of over one year. With the issuance of the certificate, CCP is now clear to start its operations.
CCP Party Leader Grace Akuku said the party’s main objective is to ensure entrenchment of full democracy in Kenya.
We want to move democracy to the next level, where every Kenyan will feel owning a piece of the democracy in this country so that we can move as a bloc in the wake of searching a democratic country” said Akuku CCP party leader.
The democratic space in Kenya and Nyanza region has been limited adding that CCP will not only talk but practice democracy especially free and fair nominations.
She says the party will not support monopolistic or individualistic politics but rather will rally support behind people chosen by individuals.
We don’t want to go the way other parties have been doing while the winner do not get the certificate while the looser is awarded, that’s what we want to address, said Akuku CCP Party Leader.
Speaking to Kisumu News while presenting the registration certificate to the party members drawn from the country, Akumu added that the party will also not entertain corruption.
Akuku however said that in the past most parties have had chaotic elections because of favoritism, clanism and even selling of party certificates to the highest bidders.
In the Past Nomination of the dominant party ODM has been marred by riots in Kisumu, Homa Bay and other parts of Nyanza as ODM members always protest the outcome of the party’s primaries.
Properties have been witnessed destroyed as locals protested the declaring of the losers.
Akuku added that the party will also root for basic human rights and development and policy issues that will elevate Kenyans to a different level.
