For a long time now, since independence there have been personalities that have made Kenya what it is today, sacrificing ambition to shape Kenya, shelving personal political careers for loyalty to the party or Kenya. While the results always come with a pinch of salt, they have always proven to carry the day. Making decisions that have changed Kenya, pre-independence and post-independence to events some bullish Kenyans have refused to recognize as landmarks in society, shame on all parties with no recognition of the facts and a part on the back for all Kenyans who recognize change, there bearers and makers.
That said and done lets subject a few of these names and events to scrutinize and find out how that has affected Kenya, its administration and its people
The late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga born in Bondo in Nyanza is said to have revoked his Christian name Obadiah Adonijah predicament to a more liberalized original Kenyanised name, a Luo chieftain who started the Luo thrift and Trading Corporation to bring forth empowerment amongst the Luo’s. This earned him recognition as Ker and association to the name Jaramogi coined from the famed Luo King Ramogi Ajwang. Enough said, Jaramogi became the first Vice President of Kenya, making a landmark decision that changed Kenya to what it is today celebrating Kenya at its 50th anniversary with Jomo Kenyatta’s son as president. A recap of these events shows the Late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga switching power from his own palms and taking a stand to wait for the late Jomo Kenyatta who was not Luo but KENYAN ,captured and in jail suffering for the Freedoms of Kenyans . That moment of decision making has made Kenya what it is today, showing a gloomy power struggle between ethnic tribes to rise to the seat of power that is presently stationed in the central region and may switch to Rift Valley given the trends and statement the Son of Jomo has made in recent times.
Saying and I quote:
Wakitaka wangoje 10 Years nimalize alafu Ruto pia amalize yake
I am Kenyan and my freedoms suggest this spirit is going to take Kenyans to the dogs, the spirit of greed. Let’s let this spirit loose and give equal opportunities to all a chance because as it is we are a Country of Kenyans led by two Kenyan tribes and the greed to repeat this continues to eat on Kenyans and the gap widens. A follow up to what the late founder of this country did for his father suggest that our beloved President Uhuru Kenyatta owes it to Kenyans to share power and change the current status quo. Do the noble and right thing Mr. President and make a legacy that will appreciate you forever rather than appreciate you for the term of your presidency, shun greed and the theory that power must be grabbed, Period.
