Civil Society groups have condemned the move by President Uhuru Kenyatta to assent to the Security Amendment Bill 2014 saying it’s an affront to human rights.
Transform Empowerment for Action Initiative (TEAM) and Haki Africa say Kenyans freedoms and rights are now in jeopardy with the coming into force of this law.
TEAM Executive Secretary Mr. George Collins Owuor says the new law gives Executive and police sweeping powers that violate fundamental rights that
are guaranteed in the new constitution.
Owuor says they are now considering several options including picketing which is allowed under the constitution to protest at the signing of the
new law.
Speaking to Kisumu News, Owuor says they will also move to court to challenge the law.
HAKI Africa Executive Director Hussein Khalid expressed Civil Societies displeasure over Security Bill saying they will not be intimated by passage of such laws.
Khalid says Kenyans feel that the constitution must be protected by all individuals adding that the new law is illegal.
