Civil Society in Kisumu have summoned Kisumu County Governor Jack Ranguma for a public forum next month to explain to the residents the performance of the county.
Kisumu County National Youth Council Chairman Barnabas Odeny who read the press statement in Kisumu said the forum is important for the growth of the County.
Odeny said the Governor should use the forum to give an annual address that is enshrined in the constitution.
He says the Governor needs to give an overall overview on the performance of the county to the people.
We want the Governor Jack Ranguma to come out and give us a core card of this county since he come to power we can’t just sit feeling that we are being dragged behind while other counties keeps on moving interims of development, said Odeny
Odeny noted that the forum must be attended by the county executive members, county service board members, county assembly members and the management of the city.
He said the county is faced with a number of challenges ranging from wrangling at the county assembly and nepotism and irregular employment at the county amongst other things.
However, the press conference was disrupted by some youths who accused the organizers of undermining Ranguma and the office.
The youth said, the organizers should seek audience with the Governor before summoning him for ridicule.
You can’t just undermine the Governor the way want and even if you have garage with him (Ranguma) don’t undermine the office follow the due channel so that he can get all those your allegation but you can’t come here at the Sports Ground to tarnish his name in the name of looking for public forum, said Omondi one of the youth from Manyatta Estate.
Betty Okero Team Leader of The Civil Society Organization Network says that the Civil Society should be very strategic to investigate and come out with the statistics of cases of nepotism in the county and share them with other Civil Societies in the county to help fight this.
We need to get those who applied for the post in question and sits down with the County Public Service Board to understand the process how some people were dropped in some stages, said Betty Okero.
On the other issue the vocal Leader said that there is need to understand the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) and the county budget to bring these people to book.
We can only look into these budgets and the CIDP to gauge whether they are working in accordance with what they promised and even if there is any infiltration of the county funds, these all leaders must be accountable to the devolve resources when we be very strategic since them too have changed tactics, added Betty.
