RESIDENTS of Kisumu County have been urged to come out in large numbers and actively participate in blood donation to boost the blood bank in the region.
Speaking to Kisumu News after visiting the Governor, the national director of blood transfusion center Dr. Margaret Oduor said that there is likely to be blood shortage in the country if citizens are not willingly involved in blood donation.
This comes after withdrawal of donors who have been paying 2.8 million USD every year to support the blood donation in the country as they shift to HIV/AIDS support.
She also encouraged Kenyans to form donor clubs which can help blood donation especially during school holidays as a way of improving blood bank in the country.
We should encourage our school going children to create accounts that they are involve in to donate blood that they keep in their blood account so as we don’t lack blood in our centerssaid Dr. Margaret Oduor.
Dr. Oduor said that selling blood from the transfusion centers is something that should not be allowed and those involve should be charged in a court of law.
Selling blood is against the law and whoever found selling blood will face full force of the law.said Dr. Margaret Oduor.
This comes after patients recently died at the Siaya Referral Hospital due to lack of blood at the institution’s blood bank. The hospital reached a quagmire when the medical personnel could not find the correct blood group to transfuse the unfortunate patients.
