Ecobank and Ogra Foundation fight malaria by commissioning a Kshs. 80,000 mosquito repellent at the Kisumu District Hospital Paediatric Ward to help in the fight against malaria.
Ogra Foundation CEO Gabriel Amollo says the move is part of an anti malaria drive in this region that targets expectant mothers and children under the age of five.
The campaign will include free distribution of mosquito treated nets in all the low income areas like Manyatta, Nyalenda, Obunga, Nyawita, Bandani etc.
Speaking at the District Hospital in Kisumu today when unveiling the machine, Mr. Amollo said such machines have been installed at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral hospital and the Kisii Level 5 Hospital.
Amollo says another 600 homes will also benefit from indoor residual spraying to help in the fight against malaria in homes adding that the campaign will also offer free education on malaria prevention methods to the locals.
Kisumu District Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Amos Otedo said the government is keen to reduce the mortality attributable to malaria in the County.
He says malaria deaths in Kisumu County are on the rise and there is need to reverse such deaths by adopting malaria prevention methods.
