FORMATION OF THE METROPOLITAN POLICE FOR KISUMU COUNTY

The County Government of Kisumu is rooting for the formation of the Metropolitan Police to boost security provision within the county.

Kisumu County Assembly Clerk Owen Ojuok says they are working on ways to have the Metropolitan Police in place by end of this year.

Speaking in Kisumu, Owen says that the County Government Act allows for the formation of the Metropolitan Police.

Kisumu County Clerk added that the formation of the Metropolitan Police will help Kisumu County government in matters of security within the county and its environs. The clerk says Metropolitan Police Bill is in the pipeline and is anticipated to supplement the existing national police force in fighting criminal activities.

He says the formation of the metropolitan police force will enable the County Government to assist the National Police Service who are currently overwhelmed in the maintenance of security matters within Kisumu County. It has been noted that there has been a high spate of insecurity with Kisumu citizens complaining of the high rise of insecurity.

Owen says that the Metropolitan Police will also help with the enforcement of by-laws a task that was mandated to the Enforcement Department in the defunct local authorities.
Clerk Owen finalized by saying that Kisumu County Governor Jack Ranguma will have the mandate to appoint the head of Metropolitan Police and therefore will have control of the Metropolitan Security in his County.
