K‘Ogalo will be slapped with a fine of Sh500, 000 and will play remaining matches behind closed doors after Sunday’s crowd trouble in Machakos stadium where they went down to Sofapaka 3-2 that saw the title wide open to both of the tree teams at the helm.
Gor fined to play behind closed doors following Sunday’s crowd trouble that erupted in Machakos, Goal can exclusively reveal. A source privy to initial discussions at Football Kenya Federation has told Goal that FKF will slap K’Ogalo with a fine of Sh500, 000 in addition to a five-match ban on their fans, meaning they will play rest of their matches in empty stadia.
The standard is the same because the federation wants to treat every team equally,” said the source.
Having punished (AFC) Leopards only a few days back, it would almost be certain that FKF will not waste any time thinking about what to do for the match in Machakos.
Gor Mahia fans invaded the pitch after the team conceded third goal to Sofapaka in the match that chopped their lead at the summit to just a point with two matches left.
Although the match eventually ended 3-2 in favour of Batoto ba Mungu, the final decision to award Sam Timbe’s side the match would deal a big blow to K’Ogalo because a 2-0 award means they would suffer a two-goal difference instead of just one.
Goal understands that summon letters have already been issued to both Gor Mahia and Sofapaka FC to appear before National Executive Committee on Tuesday, with our source further hinting that more sanctions maybe announced after full NEC meeting.
On the other hand they will have to wait little bit longer for them to start using their home ground stadium which is popularly known as tok komwanda a refurbished City Stadium for training and matches.
This is because the planned refurbishment that was to kick-off in July has been delayed for three months. The refurbishment will cost Sh87million. The bulk of the money will come from KPL broadcast sponsors SuperSport with County Government giving the rest.
Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has revealed to Goal that the delay has been caused by approval of the new designs.
We are working on the approvals of the designs and hope to have it ready by end of the month. I am happy that SuperSport has agreed to meet some of the cost.
It is a blessing in disguise. It would have been a challenge to get an alternative venue.
