The outspoken Homa Bay Senator Otieno Kajwang passed on Tuesday night at Mater Hospital in Nairobi due to cardiac arrest. According to family sources, the former immigration minister developed breathing complications at his Runda home and was rushed to his personal physician at Mater.
CORD leader Raila Odinga announced the demise of one of his most trusted loyalists on his twitter account saying:
It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the death of Ndugu Otieno Kajwang (Nyakwar Nyakwamba).
Hon. Otieno Kajwang’ died aged 55 years. He was born in 1959 at Homa Bay County, Waondo Village in Lambwe Valley.
According to his brother TJ Kajwang’, who is the Ruaraka MP, the ODM Senator was taken to the hospital at about 9pm after complaining of chest pains while at home, and was declared dead two hours later.
His body now lies at the Lee Funeral Home where friends, colleagues and family mourn the fallen politician. Kajwang’ is renowned for his trade mark ‘Bado Mapambano’ political slogan.

Makueni’s Mutula Kilonzo Jr added:
Rest in peace my brother, learned friend and Senator, Otieno Kajwang. Mapambano mbinguni.
Nominated Senator Martha Wangari said it was shocking that the Homabay Senator had departed so sudden while recounting her last moments with him:
Unbelievable how short this life is. Was among the last Senators in the chambers with u yesterday n can hardly believe u no more. RIP @HonKajwang
My condolences to the family and friends of my colleague Sen. Otieno Kajwang. A great comrade, a meticulous,” Mombasa’s Hassan Omar wrote on his twitter.

My brother and comrade in arms, the late senator Otieno Kajwang was relentless in serving Kenyans. Am so saddened. God help us!
The President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta observed a minute of silence at the Kenya National Investment Conference at KICC today in respect to the demise of the fun, outspoken leader the Late Hon. Otieno Kajwang’.
