National Aids Control Council Coordinator for Migori County Doctor, Joshua Odembo has appealed to the County Aids Control agencies to intense HIV/AIDS Civic Education along the Lake Region and gold mining area in the county to reduce the ballooning HIV infection rate in the county.
Speaking to Kisumu News he said that intense Civic Education on HIV/AIDS needs to be done around Nyatike Gold Mine area and lake shore where the HIV infection rate is concentrated.
He said the lifestyle along the two prone areas which has been attributed to the cash flow in those areas is said to have contributed to the spread of the disease in the areas and the entire county.
Odembo said that most HIV/AIDs Civic Education conducted at the county has not been reaching the HIV prone areas effectively.
He said the effort to reduce the disease spread in the county will only be achieved in case more effort will be invested in the renowned HIV prone area like Sori, Muhuru Bay, and Osiri among other areas.
He also appealed to the expectant mothers to deliver in hospital so that they can prevent the mother to child HIV transmission at time of delivery.
He said most expectant mothers have been delivering at home hence higher chances of disease transmission to their new born babies.
The Coordinator has also appealed to the youths living with the virus to stop spreading it to the healthy people deliberately.
He said that those who are living with the disease should also keep themselves safe saying that they are likely to contract more dangerous infections hence die faster.
This comes after the report by the national Aids and control council ranked the counties along the lake as the highly affected areas in Kenya.
The report indicated that the county needs to improve access to and uptake of sexual and reproductive health services for girls and women.
The council also keen to keep girls in school to help delay sexual debut, pregnancy, and marriage which is one of the ways to keep spread the vice.
