Is Kenyan Politics Polarized or Progressive?

The Kenyan Political scene is one of the most active and vibrant in the larger East and Central Africa. Kenyan Politics has gone through a lot of changes since independence with the latest being the adoption of a new governance system, which includes devolution of power to regions administrated by the county structure of governance.

Kenya also celebrated its Jubilee last year, meaning that is has been 50 years since Kenya got independence and started governing itself. Comparing the level of Economy, Business, Tourism, Leadership, Development, Agriculture, Industrialization, Corruption et cetera to a country like Singapore, then we have been left behind by decades. We believe that with good politics is good leadership and hence a country’s greatness. In 1963 Kenya was in the same Economic Level with Singapore, 50 years later Singapore has surpassed Kenya with a better Economy, a lower Cost of Living and highly developed market-based Economy. Singapore is now one of the “four tigers” (South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong) boasting the world’s fastest growing Economy with a GDP growth of 36.4% last quarter. It makes me wonder, Is Kenyan Politics Polarized or Progressive?

If I look at the Kenyan Politics and Politics in Singapore, I can only quote Dr. Tiberious Baraza a lecturer at Maseno University in Kisumu.

Integrity and sincerity among both regional and national leaders so that they are committed to the promises they make to the people during elections,” Dr. Tiberius Barasa explains. “Selflessness, brutal war against corruption and long term visionary policies is what defined the leadership of Lee Kuan Yew for three decades

Kenya needs long term visionary policies to define its leadership if we are to do any better than we are now. I also challenge the Kenyan people to see beyond their nasal organs, to shun the Kenyan Politics of hatred, tribalism, and ethnic marginalization. Kenyan people need to be brave enough to stand up for what is right, what is true and what is great. And as an instigator of awesomeness, I ask again Is Kenyan Politics Polarized or Progressive?
