The County Government of Siaya is being compelled to employ more health staff in public hospitals by the end of this month.
Gem Member of Parliament Hon. Jakoyo Midiwo said the County Government should employ adequate health staff by the end of this month frailer to which he will mobilize locals not to pay taxes.
He said there is need for the County Government to come out clear on how they intend to employ adequate health staff and how they are going to be paid.
Jakoyo was at Rera Health Center in South Gem location in his Gem Constituency, during an assessment meeting for the intended establishment of Gem KMTC, at the facility.
Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo further alleged that some health staff have not received their salaries for about eight months. This he said is demoralizing the health workers who are supposed to offer service delivery and save lives.
Efforts to reach Governor Rasanga for comments over the allegations turned futile. However the health adviser to the governor Dr. Omamo Ndai refuted the claims saying that Siaya County is among the Counties that have been paying their workers promptly and that is why they have not gone on strike.
This comes barely a month after the County Executive in Charge of Health Dr. Edward Owila and his Finance counterpart Cleophas Ombogo were summed to the County Assembly to explain why they had not recruited health staff with the controversial Shs. 108 million alleged to have been released by the National Government.
