Newly appointed Kisumu City Manager Doris Ombara speaks tough on how revenue are collected and a higher percentage ends into people’s pockets, she however announced new plans that she has come with to seal loopholes in revenue collection within the city.
Ombara said the city has not reached its potential in revenue collection due to corrupt officials depriving the city of revenue being collected daily.
She said the county has a deficit of over KES. 3 billion which should be generated internally for development, and all those who are in revenue collection must work with good faith to deliver the target collection.
She said what the National Government is giving to Kisumu County for development is not enough and locals must ensure that they pay revenue to bridge the gap.
The Kisumu City Manager said the revenue collection is far below the expectation and announced that her office will work on a framework to block any pilferage of collected money.
Speaking when she toured Kibuye Open Air Market, Ombara noted that the Governor will not be able to effectively offer development if revenue collection is diverted into pockets.
She promised to ensure that money collected are remitted in full and put on notice county officers in charge of revenue collection and reminded them to remain diligent on their work.
