Equator Bottlers Limited has partnered with County Government of Kisumu for a clean-up exercise of Kisumu Bus Park and Jubilee Market to a tune of Sh. 3.5 million.
The company Marketing Sales Manager Paul Odeyo says the clean-up exercise is part of the company’s effort in the areas of sustainability projects. Odeyo says there main focus is to reach out to small scale traders and address some of the challenges they are facing in their areas of work.
Protection of the environment is one of our thematic areas…which is critical for the survival of businesses and the community. We learn how to make great strides in protecting the environment. Mostly retailers and vendors play an important role in many countries. In the past 10 years, economic planners have realized the importance of the small enterprise sector in achieving economic development, said Mr. Odipo
He says the bus park and the market hold an approximate of 500 small scale retailers and vendors and the cleanliness situation of the area needs a boost to facilitate the suitability of the environment.
Speaking during the launch of the clean-up exercise in Kisumu, the City Manager Doris Ombara says the bus park and the market remains very critical for the City Management.
Ombara says the two institutions are the main revenue base for the city and more must be done to improve on their outlook.
Ombara said, The bus park and market are very very critical and important institutions and operations in our lives. That’s why we cannot ignore the bus park, we cannot ignore market. This is where we get our food, our transport, this is where we buy our produces, so we cannot ignore so it is one of the most important components in the city
