Kisumu County Commander Erastus Ekidor has come out in full force to defend men and women in uniform (police) in Kisumu in the wake of criticism on the rise of insecurity in the city.
Ekidor said the blanket condemnation of the police force over their involvement in crime in the city is not right not good for the security growth.
He said there might be a few elements of police officers who are rogue but that does not mean the entire force is involved in criminal activities.
Ekidor was reacting after ODM County Chairman Dave Okwach accused police officers of being behind a spate of robberies in Kisumu in the recent weeks.
However he called upon members all stakeholders to come in and offer the information that will lead to curbing the insecurity.
This comes after one police officer attached to flying squad in Kisumu was identified by a victim who was robed in the bank and when he was dumped by the thugs he went to report the matter at the Kisumu Police Station and found the alleged robber at the police station working as police officer
The officer is still serving and no action has been taken to see such officer suspended pending investigations.
Kisumu East MP Shakeel Shabir also came to the defense of the officers noting that only the rogue officers should be singled out for condemnation.
Shakeel said that it is ironical to condemn the whole force but run for help to them when one is in problem.
He said there are structures on how to deal with rogue police officers and not to call them thieves in public functions.
There is bad blood between the Kenya police and administration police in Kisumu accusing each other of involvement in the spate of robberies in Kisumu.
This was seen when the Administration police officers storm the Kisumu Police Station to demand answers why one officer was shot dead in Manyatta area after it was alleged that the officer in company with the other two was being trailed from the spot where they committed robbery.
