Kelvin Oraro Kolwa Ward Representative joins Kisumu Youth Model Assembly to Petition the County Assembly
The county should work with the existing structures like youth leagues to formulate and implement youth policies.said Isaac Oburu Field Officer Youth Alive Kenya.
They accuse the County Government of planning to come with youths who are their cronies to be at the helm of the County Youth Development and sidelining the existing structure which is known from the national to the grass root level.
We don’t want these leaders to bring in their people so that they can micro manage the County Youth Projects and we are envisaging a scenario where their interests is what will be served leaving out the youth interests.says Oburu
On the other hand they want the County Assembly to harmonize directorate of youth affairs at the county level and National Government for the best oversight on youth programs and initiative in the county that includes devolve funds.
If we break down this board from the county office to the ward levels, so that those in the wards to advise accordingly the county board on what projects to be implemented in the ward level since youth in different wards have different needs that you cannot tend to merge them.Oburu added.
They demand that the County Government should construct and equip at least two youth polytechnics in each ward for skill based and vocational development to help the county grow many skilled youth in the count for better delivery in work out put.
We have so many youth, but lack skills to get the jobs which are advertised in the county and the County Government must move with speed to bridge this gap by constructing these facilitiesOburu said.
Oburu who is also a member of Kisumu Youth Model Assembly said that the youth have been blocked out in the job market and ask implementation of Government Policy on youth access to county procurement advertised.
The petition was presented to the Kolwa Central Ward Representative Hon. Kelvin Okoth Oraro who was to present it to The Speaker of the County Assembly Hon. Ann Adul.
