Kenya Primary School and Sports Association launched a talent search in the lake region to promote the talent from the various primary schools representing counties in the former Nyanza Province.
KPSSA Organizers represented by there secretary Mr Ben Achieng stated that they were concentrating on promoting talent from schools particularly in Football, Netball, Handball and Volleyball and hoped that they could also get sponsorship for there regional competitions to improve the standards of the tournament.
We are on the right track with this talent search and promotion for these young children and hoping that they get better while pursuing their career that they are talentedsaid Ben Achieng KPSSA Lake Region Secretary.
On the other hand the Secretary appealed to the corporate bodies to come in and sponsor these event to continue promoting and showcasing the talents in the children while they are still young people.
We call upon the corporate society to come in and help continue rolling this program, it important to have a creative generation to come we don’t want to waste their talents in sports
The regional regional talent search competition took place at Lions high school in Kisumu comprising Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Homa-Bay, Kisumu and Siaya Counties.
The football semi–finals and finals was an interesting match up pitting Kisumu and Kisii which ended in a 2 – 2 draw then proceeded to penalties which Kisumu county won 4 – 1.
In other semi-final matches winners Homa-Bay showcased just how much talent needs to be nurtured in the counties and the need to promote more of such events.
Homa-Bay drew level with Kisumu in the finals each managing to hold the other to go into penalties once again. The game ended with Homa-Bay winning the football contest of the day, managing also to take the overall trophy for counties.
Kisumu managed to take the overall trophy for games played by girls and Homa-Bay snapped the overall trophy for games played by boys.
The selection were represented by players from across all the six counties hoping to play in the national games to be held at Kisumu Polytechnic from the 14th -16th of April 2014.
