Maseno University is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) to enable Maseno University School of Medicine students use the hospital as a teaching facility.
The university Director of Public Relations Jaspher Otieno says the MOU to be signed tomorrow in Kisumu provides critical guidelines for effective and smooth use of the hospital by Maseno University as a venue for clinical teaching, practice and medical research.
Otieno said the agreement will enhance training of medical doctors from Maseno University which will in effect address the shortage of doctors in the region and Kisumu County in particular.
He further noted that it will also improve the quality of clinical care and health outcomes by optimizing the synergy in medical training, research and clinical care.
Otieno said the pioneer class of the School of Medicine of 50 medical students are already undertaking their fourth year clinical clerkships at the hospital and providing the necessary support in the various departments.
