Kisumu County Government has been urged to increase allocation for bursary funds to the needy students in the County.
South West Kisumu ward representative Joseph Abiola said the current Sh. 1 million per ward is very meager owing to the number of needy students.
Abiola said there are many bright students in the county are unable to continue with their education due to lack of funds.
To our people of South West Kisumu, its blatant truth that one million which was allocated to us by the county government, it’s noticeable that we used it well but the problem it was so merger and now we ask our county president to look into how they can add it a little more since the needy to this money are many, said Abiola
He added that very few students are benefiting from the fund and there is need to increase the allocation.
Speaking at Obambo Chief’s Camp when he gave out forms for bursary allocation, Abiola said he will sponsor a motion in the county assembly for the increase of allocation.
He called upon his fellow MCAs to rally behind him when he moves the motion to allow more students to access education in the county.
I call upon assembly members to rally behind the motion that I will present on the floor and ask them to come together to pass this motion so that the executive can add more money to this, Abiola
Other parents also supported the move to allocate more funds for bursary.
They say there are many orphans in the county who are bright and need support to continue with their education.
We are very happy with the kind of work Abiola is currently doing; we only ask that more money be channeled for bursary for the needy children to get better education, said Edwina Auma Resident of South West Kisumu Obambo Village.
