The Government is in the process to establish a National Research Fund for Public Universities to boost research programmes across the country.
Education, Science and Technology Cabinet Secretary Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi says the fund is crucial and the Government is in the pipeline to establish it.
Kaimenyi says they will also establish the Public Universities Fund to help in the improvement of infrastructure in the universities across the country.
He added that the government also plans to build 60 technical training institutions across the country.

He says a further 100 such institutions will also be constructed, adding that the institutions will also be built in each constituency in the country.
The Cabinet Secretary urged the public varsities across the country to spend money allocated to them by the Government for development prudently.
Kaimenyi lauded the newly inaugurated University’s Chancellor Michael Joseph and urged him to spur infrastructure development in Maseno.
The former Safaricom CEO was appointed the Chancellor in January 2014 for a term of five years by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Joseph is the fourth Chancellor of Maseno University and he takes over from Florida Karani who has served in that capacity since 2009.
