Kisumu County Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga is now calling for dialogue in the wake of a fall out in the management of the County Government. Odinga said it is high time the county leaders sat down and soberly addressed the challenges affecting the county.
She said constant wrangling in the county is hampering service delivery to the people of Kisumu. Odinga refuted reports that she called for the disbandment of the county government.
Speaking to the press in Kisumu, the Deputy Governor however said if the wrangling persisted and leaders failed to agree then it would be advisable for the leadership to step aside.
She criticized Governor Jack Ranguma for forging ahead with the retreat meant for the Kisumu County cabinet staff in Nairobi whilst unresolved issues of staffing. Ruth Odinga said the bonding retreat came at a time the Governor relieved five county executive members without consulting her.
She said the Governor ought to have filled the void and bring on board the new executive members before calling for a retreat. The retreat was cancelled at the eleventh hour a fortnight ago after the Deputy Governor protested that it was not a priority at a time because the county was facing financial constraints.
However, the retreat was still organized but was boycotted by the deputy governor and other affiliated ward representatives. Odinga later clarified to the press that she had no political difference with Ranguma, only ideological.
