Ombeyi Ward residents urged to plant variety food crops to address food shortage in Muhoroni Constituency.
Their Ward Representative Joshua Auko says those living within Ahero Rice Irrigation Scheme must now change tact and farm other food and cash crops.
Auko said the locals have been farming rice time immemorial but they are getting little returns.
He says locals should now diversify from farming rice and plant other food and cash crops in the scheme.
Speaking to Kisumu News, Auko revealed that the families who were evicted by the Irrigation Board are now hungry and destitute.
He added that he will not rest until those families are compensated to allow them find other places to put up.
Auko said the planned peaceful demonstration by the affected families tomorrow (28th November 2014) has been canceled in memory of the Late Senator Hon. Gerald Otieno Kajwang.
He said the forceful evictions were down with a court order and told his people that the fight for their rights is still on.
