The Colourful event was organised by both Caucuses and sponsored by the International Federation of Women Lawyers(FIDA) and The International Humanitarian Law Resource Centre (DIAKONIA) was presided over by dignitaries that included Honorable Ken Obura, Hon. Owen Carolyne, Hon. Farida A. Salim, Hon. Caroline Agwanda and several other Members of the County Assembly.
The Kisumu County Assembly Women Caucus is a membership organization for all female members of the County Assembly irrespective of political party affiliation. It is aimed at engendering County legislative process, lobbying, networking, capacity building and awareness creation. It provides space for female Members of the County Assembly to meet, share strategies and enhance women’s involvement in the Assembly. KICAWOCA seeks to ensure that both women and men members of the Kisumu County Assembly exercise their duties efficiently to positively transform the County.
On the other hand the Kisumu County Women Leadership Caucus (KCWLC) was established in June 2013 by Women Leaders from various sectors within Kisumu County. Kisumu County Women Leadership Caucus being a grassroots women’s organization with branch representation from all the seven constituencies that make up Kisumu County and is registered as a regional Community Based Organization.
The Event was also graced with the attendance of the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) based in Nairobi Chaired by Cecile Mbarire.
The Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) is a membership association of all women parliamentarians drawn from across all political parties both elected and nominated in the Senate and National Assembly.
KEWOPA was established in 2001 by eight (8) women parliamentarians with its primary objective being to address the issues of women parliamentarians, building their capacities as legislators and representatives of their constituents and lobbyists of women-centred policies and laws.
The highlight of the launch was captured when the leaders of the different Caucuses invited the Governor of Kisumu County Jack Ranguma to a cake cutting session and a combination of the leaders dancing to a tune of empowered leadership.
