Residents of Yala Town in Gem, Siaya County wants to be given priority and be first beneficiaries of the Water Project at Ndano fall in River Yala.
Lead by their Ward Representative Mr. Joseph Kawuor the residents wants to have easy access to clean water given that they are the host to the project.
Speaking during a public hearing on the budget for the financial year 2015/2016 at Yala Jamii hall, Yala town, Kawuor noted that there are various villages within Yala township ward that lack water yet they are near to the water source.
He said that it will be prudent if the local community gets an upper hand noting that for many years the water from the river has been benefiting locals from other regions more than them.
The ongoing water project funded by Africa Development Bank (ADB) through the national government to a tune of over KShs. 2 billion will see to it that water drowned from Ndano falls gets to flow by force of gravity to all the sub counties in Siaya.
This will end the persistent water shortage that has consistently been hitting the county due to various challenges amongst them frequent power outages and accumulative electricity bills.
