A 30-year-old woman has been arrested with 231 stones of Cannabis Sativa ready to transport by the police in Ugunja Sub County while in possession ready for transit.
Millicent Onyango (30) was arrested on by the police at Simenya Bus Park while preparing to transport the outlawed weed to Nairobi.
Ugunja Deputy County Commissioner Kipkech Lotiatia said 231 rolls of stones of bhang were recovered from the woman stashed in a gunny bag.
Lotiatia said police officers on routine patrol along the busy Kisumu – Busia Highway spotted the suspicious looking woman before mounting a search on her luggage which led to the recovery of the drugs.
The administrator added that she was arrested and taken to Ugunja Police Station waiting to be arraigned in court soon.
Lotiatia said that the woman could be among a cartel of unscrupulous traders who use the busy highway to transport illegal goods to various destinations across the country.
He added that security surveillance has been bolstered in the region especially along the major highways to ensure that suspected criminal gangs do not escape the police dragnets.
Lotiatia asked members of the public to furnish the security officers with vital information that will lead to the arrest of other accomplices who are still at large.
